Even as New Delhi has said it won’t act in haste following Beijing’s decision to block India’s bid to seek a global terrorist tag for Pakistan-based JeM chief Masood Azhar, there have been calls for a boycott of Chinese goods by various groups in India.
Social media, too, was abuzz with similar appeals last week. On Tuesday, small traders in various cities burned Made-in-China products to mark their protest. But all this appears to be largely symbolic.
The ground reality is completely different, at least going by the level of India’s trade ties with China, now its largest trading partner. India is an important market for Chinese electronics and mobile phone makers. Chinese companies are also gradually investing in Indian firms, including startups.
